Degree-Seeking Students (F-1)

If you have questions about maintaining your F-1 immigration status, please contact the TCNJ Arlotto Family Center for Global Engagement. Our advisors are here to answer all of your questions on maintaining status.

In order for you to stay in the U.S. as a lawful F-1 student, you must comply with specific regulations of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This is “maintaining status” or “being in status”. The most important criteria to maintain your status is to always have a full-time course schedule each semester. This is 3 TCNJ units for undergraduates and 9 credits for graduate students. There are some special circumstances where you can be a part-time student. However, you must talk to a DSO about eligibility and required documentation for part-time course enrollments.
