Immunizations
All new students at The College of New Jersey are required to show that they have immunizations, including (but not limited to) measles, mumps, and rubella. Meningitis is required ONLY for students entering housing. Hepatitis B vaccinations are also required.
It is expected that International and National Student Exchange students meet ALL of the College’s health requirements by the deadlines posted in order to accommodate the increasing NJ state immunization requirements. Students should fill out the TCNJ Student Health Services Information Form BEFORE their departure to The College of New Jersey to complete and return to Health Services. If you do not mail the TCNJ Student Health Services Information Form before your departure for TCNJ, we suggest that you bring your immunization records. Health Care
The College of New Jersey provides FREE visits to Health Services for all enrolled TCNJ students. Spouses, partners, and children of students must seek medical care elsewhere. Exchange visitors are required, as a condition of their J-1 and F-1 status in the United States, to carry health insurance for themselves and their accompanying family members. By government regulation, minimum coverage must provide: up to $50,000 for accident or illness, up to $7,500 for repatriation and remains, up to $10,000 for medical evacuation to the home country, and a deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.
Student Insurance
International Students MUST have the following Student Insurance. They are not permitted to opt out of this coverage:
The College of New Jersey requires that all full-time students have adequate health insurance to cover medical emergencies and hospitalization. This means that international students must also enroll in the TCNJ’s Student Health Insurance Plan. The cost of the TCNJ Student Insurance Plan was approximately $400 in Fall 2013 or $560 in Spring 2014 in the 2013-2014 academic year.
The plan covers the requirements as well as including a $300 limit per policy on prescription drugs (price subject to change). The College acquired health insurance covers or defrays the cost of laboratory testing, x-rays and prescription medicine that must be obtained through off campus providers. Please also note that the College-acquired health insurance provides a Dental and Vision discount plan, but because eye care and dental care are quite expensive in the US, it is advisable to have these services be performed before you arrive in the US.
